2017 CHINESE GRAND PRIX – RACE
The 2017 Chinese Grand Prix proved to be an action-packed but ultimately short-lived experience for the McLaren-Honda team. A damp start to the race played into the hands of both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, as the drivers took advantage of the wet conditions to move up the running order. With crashes and Safety Car periods added to the mix, Alonso even managed to climb as high as P6 and well into a points paying position. Unfortunately, the reliability gods were not on the team's side in Shanghai and both drivers ended up retiring from the race - first Stoffel with a fuel problem and then Fernando with a driveshaft issue. The team will now regroup and refocus on the Bahrain Grand Prix, the second race in this back-to-back double header.
