MEXICAN GRAND PRIX - RACE
The McLaren-Honda team left the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix with a hard earned World Championship point after a spirited race from both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne. Vandoorne made a stellar start from the lights, overtaking the cars ahead to reach P12 by the end of lap one. With the thin air at high altitude affecting aerodynamics, the Belgian driver found it difficult to follow and overtake the cars in front and he finished the race in 12th place. Alonso opted for an alternative tyre strategy to most of the other cars, starting on the supersofts and pitting mid-race for ultrasofts. The risk paid off and he was able to challenge for points in the top 10. A P8 finish looked possible as the final laps unfolded but he ended up taking the chequered flag in P10 and adding another point to his season tally.
