SPANISH GRAND PRIX - RACE
The McLaren-Honda team was unable to convert the promise of Saturday qualifying into points at the Spanish Grand Prix. An incident-filled first lap saw Fernando Alonso drop down to P11, after he was pushed wide by Felipe Massa. Stoffel Vandoorne was able to make up places and fought well in the opening laps, even passing Jolyon Palmer's Renault for position. However, another incident involving Massa damaged Stoffel's suspension and took him out of the race. Alonso continued to race, maintaining a solid pace, and took a third pit stop gamble with just 12 laps to go. The move paid off, as he was much faster than the drivers ahead, making up four positions in the final laps, to cross the finish line P12.
