A much better day in the desert for all ten teams involved in the second and final day of this in-season test at the Sakhir circuit. From a Honda point of view, everything went well and plenty of laps from our drivers means that we made up for the time lost yesterday to rain.
Much of the media attention these past two days has focussed on Mick (son of Michael) Schumacher, driving the Ferrari yesterday and the Alfa Romeo today. However, from a Honda perspective, it was interesting to see how Dan Ticktum got on in the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing car. The young Englishman and Macau GP winner has a season in Japan’s Super Formula ahead of him, racing for the Team Mugen. This was the same route that Pierre Gasly took to get to Formula 1. Ticktum did well on his debut, completing 135 laps. Alex Albon was still in the cockpit of the Scuderia Toro Rosso and was pleased to get more laps (143) under his belt, given that he’s this season’s rookie with the least time spent prior to 2019 in an F1 car. As a sidebar to the main test, Daniil Kvyat continued to drive a second Toro Rosso for the Pirelli 2020 blind tyre test having completed 111 laps. Next stop Shanghai International Circuit and the Chinese GP, the one thousandth race since the F1 series began in 1950.
