The second pre-season test session got underway today at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit. This four day test is the final chunk of track time for all ten teams, before the season gets underway in Melbourne on March 17.
For Honda, it means a final chance to prepare and to get used to working with our new partners at Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, as well as our established partners at Scuderia Toro Rosso. Of our four drivers, only Pierre Gasly has previous experience of working with Honda, so there is a steeper learning curve for the other three. However, everything is going smoothly so far. Indeed, it’s a tribute to the very high level of skills and technology in Formula 1 that ten brand new cars can come out on track, almost fresh off the drawing board and run pretty reliably.
While some teams are opting to run both their drivers on each day, Scuderia Toro Rosso and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing are alternating day to day. Pierre Gasly did the most laps today (136) for our friends from Milton Keynes, while Alex Albon did 103 in the Toro Rosso Honda.
