Just one more day of testing in Barcelona and Alex Albon has finished his four days in the cockpit of the Toro Rosso. The rookie has been impressive throughout the test, especially when one considers he had never driven a Formula 1 car until last week.
Today, he racked up the third highest number of laps in the STR14 and was one of four drivers to beat the fastest lap from last year’s tests in Spain – not that lap times mean much at this stage. Aston Martin Red Bull Racing put just 65 laps on the board, as Pierre Gasly crashed quite heavily at Turn 9. Fortunately, the Frenchman is fine, but the same cannot be said for the RB15, which required extensive repairs. There’s just a few more hours of track time tomorrow and then the focus will switch to Melbourne. Daniil Kvyat and Max Verstappen will be in the cockpit for us as the curtain comes down on winter testing.
