ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX - RACE
The McLaren-Honda team signed off the 2017 F1 season – and their final race together – with a points finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Starting P11 on the grid, Fernando Alonso spent much of the race locked in another battle with the Williams car of Felipe Massa. Alonso managed to pass Massa on track after the first round of pit stops and held onto that position to take the chequered flag in P9. Team mate Stoffel Vandoorne had a tougher race around the Yas Marina track, struggling with grip and balance on his first set of tyres after suffering early damage. As the race progressed, so the performance and pace improved. Vandoorne eventually crossed the line in P12, one place higher than his start grid position. The focus now switches to a critical off-season, as we prepare the power unit for 2018 and an exciting new challenge with the Toro Rosso team.
