SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX - RACE
Rain storms, first lap crashes and three safety car periods marked an unbelievable 2017 Singapore Grand Prix. It was a race of highs and lows for the McLaren-Honda team, as Stoffel Vandoorne finished in the points with Fernando Alonso a victim of the first corner carnage. Despite a hefty shunt into the side of his car, Fernando continued to battle on in the race. The damage ultimately proved too great and he was forced to retire on Lap 8. Stoffel managed to avoid the crashing cars and settled into the rain-soaked race. The Belgian rookie, in his first Singapore Grand Prix, kept pace with the cars around him – first on wet tyres, then intermediates and eventually ultrasofts as the track dried out. Despite all the incidents, Vandoorne drove a faultless race to bring the car home in P7 and achieve his best F1 result to date.
